Unexpected News Brought Tears of Joy!

Almost every incoming Courage girl has been out of school or has been severely limited in her education because of being trafficked and exploited for sex. As a result, the girls face deeply-rooted trauma which makes it very challenging to learn and focus in school when they arrive at Courage House.

We’ve had girls come to Courage at 11, 12 and 13 years-old not knowing how to read and write in Swahili.

We established the C2BU School on-campus for this reason: the traditional learning environment is not suitable for the Courage House girls. Our teachers continually learn about trauma-informed teaching, and the girls receive personalized education in a safe environment. It’s not easy for teachers or the girls, especially as stress heightens around the time of National Exams.

For both the middle school and high school equivalents here in Tanzania, there are exams every two years that determine if a student can move to the next level. There is a lot of pressure riding on each one!

For the last year, our girls and teachers have worked incredibly hard to prepare for the Tanzanian National Exams. These exams are notably difficult for students all across the country, let alone for the girls at Courage House who are learning while processing their trauma, beginning an intense healing process and some even caring for young children of their own.

Typically each year, the results are a mixed bag: some girls pass and some fail. It is always a painful experience for those who work so hard for years and don’t pass. We have seen girls literally collapse on the floor under the weight of their crushing exam results.

This year was different.

100% of the girls that took National Exams passed!

All the staff and teachers are celebrating, as it takes a village to help our girls be successful!

Will you join us in celebration? We are so grateful for you and for your prayers. Education is the key that unlocks many opportunities for the Courage House girls’ futures. Passing these exams is the first step for them to follow their dreams! Your support empowers and allows them to do just that. So, thank you.
